Thanks for the thoughtful comments.

A quick note about the Full Faith and Credit. This is a very legal and narrow clause. You have to separate out public policy from evidence/judgement.

For instance: Gay couple marries in California. They divorce in California court, guy 1 owes guy 2 $100,000. Guy 1 flees to Georgia where Gay marriage is illegal trying to evade paying. Based on FFC he still owes $100,000 to guy 2. Georgia will enforce the "judgement".

2nd instance. Gay couple marries in California, moves to Georgia, then tries to Divorce in Georgia. Georgia will not grant the divorce. But Georgia will recognizes that they are married in California in regards to any court cases that require that, but in no way recognize that they are married in terms of day to day life. (evidence vs public policy)

FFC only enforces other states to recognize evidence/judgements but not public policy.

Other than gay marriage this is also seen in the age of marriage. Some states allow 13 year olds to marry, but others it is 16. They are still married in their state, but they do not get the privileges in a state were they do not meet the legal limits.

This is why the "Defense of Marriage Act" was important. It codified under the FFC the legal requirements of the states which is that they can not be FORCED to recognize a gay marriage from another state. But they can if they want to.

I hope that explains my point of view. Feel free to disagree.

Georgia has to recognize gay marriage because of t...

Georgia has to recognize gay marriage because of the Full Faith and Credit Clause explicitly expressed in the Constitution.

Interesting article. Can't say I agree with every point (you seem pretty opposed to having federal regulations (like energy, education, etc). I think if we look at American history, many of these regulations came about due to a lack of standards throughout the states (right or wrong).

But you bring up a good point with prostitution in Nevada. Regardless of whether you believe prostitution is immoral or not, there are some facts we can observe about Nevada.

1) Brothel prostitutes work as independent contractors and thus do not receive any unemployment, retirement or health benefits. The women are considered temp hires and usually work for 2 weeks straight (staying at the brothel) and then having a period of time off.

** So who pays for health, retirement and unemployment? For example, if a lady gets an std, has it checked out, it effects the prices of insurance, hospitals and government aided health care. What if that same lady skips her medical payment? So it could be a good possibility that you end up paying for someone else's (ir?)responsibility (assuming you pay taxes, have health care and visit the hospital).

2) The women are responsible for paying Federal income tax and their earnings are reported to the IRS via form 1099-MISC.

** I'd be curious to know how well this is enforced.

3) Nevada does not have a state income tax.

** And why not? Who builds the roads, schools, public services in Nevada?

To the idiot who posted last:

In the ten commandments."

That's in the Bible, not the Constitution (which I believe is what you were suggesting). And the Bible is hardly "our" history. Despite the Judeo-Christian values and beliefs of some of our founding fathers, they clearly didn't intend for religious beliefs to play a role in the legislative process. The issue of gay marriage has less to do with "freedom of expression" than with explicit rights and privileges granted to hetero couples who marry like taxes, passing on property, ect. If you're suggesting we enact a federal law based on a religious value, I'd suggest check out the first amendment. I'd also ask you to stop voting (just kidding, you probably don't) since you're an idiot who needs an imaginary deity from which to derive your morals. The bible also condones slavery and says you shouldn't touch a woman while she's on her period.
